Bought a used 25 horse Evinrude, I don't know much about outboards. 2 cylinder 2 strok electric start. It turns over when I press the start button, both plugs have a spark, but won't start. I did this in water. I pulled the plugs and they were moist. Compression in top cylinder is 50 psi, bottom cylinder had no compression. Pulled the head cover off. The water passageways had exhaust carbon buildup, the thermostat had a black tar/grease residue all over it. I'm guessing the bottom cylinder is leaking exhaust into the cooling system. I removed the studs holding in the head, but I can't seem to get it to budge. The 2 spark plugs are out. Is there some trick to removing the head? car insurance. Ford . How to Replace a Subaru ThermostatSubaru engines utilize a mixture of antifreeze and water to maintain a stable operating temperature. The thermostat, located just below the water pump, controls the flow of water in and out of the engine. When the engine is cold it keeps water from circulating, so the engine can wam up quickly. After the engine is warmed up the thermostat opens and allows the engine coolant to flow from the radiator to the engine. It's easy for the vehicle owner to replace a Subaru thermostat. All that's required are a few simple tools and an hour or two. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Wrench set Automotive jack Jack stands Waste oil collection pan Pliers Phillips screwdriver Socket set Needle-nose pliers Flat razor blade RTV silicone sealant Replacement thermostat gasket Antifreeze Water Allen wrench setDraining the Cooling System Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal by loosening the retaining bolt with a wrench. Then pull the clamp off the terminal. 2 Raise the front of the vehicle with an automotive jack, and support it with jack stands placed underneath the frame. 3 Press down on the radiator cap and turn it counterclockwise with your hand to loosen it. Pull it off the radiator. 4 Place a waste oil collection pan under the petcock valve on the lower right corner of the radiator. Open the petcock valve by turning it counterclockwise with pliers. Allow the cooling system to drain completely. 5 Close the petcock valve by turning it clockwise, using pliers. Removing the Thermostat Step by Step : 1 Locate the thermostat on the lower portion of the water pump assembly. It will be on the underside of the engine at the front of the engine block. 2 Loosen the hose clamp that secures the lower radiator hose to the thermostat, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the lower radiator hose off the thermostat with your hand. 3 Unscrew the two bolts that secure the thermostat housing to the bottom of water pump, using a socket. Pull the thermostat housing off the water pump, using your hand. Do not pry between the housing and water pump with a screwdriver. Doing so could cause future leaks. 4 Pull the thermostat from the water pump, using needle-nose pliers. Note which side of the thermostat is pointing downward before removing it. The new thermostat must be installed in the same direction. 5 Pull the thermostat gasket from the water pump, using needle-nose pliers. Clean the mating surfaces on both the thermostat housing and the water pump, using a flat razor blade. Installing the Thermostat Step by Step : 1 Coat both sides of the new thermostat gasket with a thin film of RTV silicone sealant, using your finger. Lay the thermostat gasket into position over the mating surface on the thermostat housing. 2 Set the new thermostat into the thermostat housing. Make sure it is oriented in the same direction the old one was. 3 Lift the thermostat housing into position on the underside of the water pump. Screw in the two screws that secure the thermostat housing to the underside of the water pump, using a socket 4 Slide the lower radiator hose onto the water pump housing, using your hand. Slide the hose clamp over both the lower radiator hose and the thermostat housing, and tighten the clamp, using a Phillips screwdriver. Refilling the Cooling System Step by Step : 1 Lower the vehicle. 2 Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. 3 Set the radiator cap onto the filler neck on the radiator. Press down and rotate the cap clockwise with your hand to tighten it. 4 Slide the ground cable onto the negative battery terminal, then tighten the retaining bolt with a wrench. 5 Start the engine. Visually inspect for leaks. 6 Locate the cooling system bleeding screw on top of the radiator just above the upper radiator hose fitting. Open the bleeding screw by turning it counterclockwise with an Allen wrench. Let the engine run for about five minutes. Close the bleeding screw by turning it clockwise with an Allen wrench. 7 Add more coolant as necessary. Tips & Warnings Closely examine the condition of the radiator and heater hoses while the cooling system is drained. Replace if they look worn or are beginning to crack. Always follow the instructions listed in the owner's manual when lifting and lowering a vehicle. Failure to do so could cause injury or death. The scent of antifreeze is highly attractive to pets. It is also highly toxic. Keep small children and pets away from antifreeze. Resourcesthe Subaru Forum
Ford . How to Replace the Thermostat in a 1994 VW JettaWhen the thermostat in your 1994 Volkswagen Jetta fails, you'll feel fortunate that it failed in the open position. This prevents your Jetta from overheating and causing thousands of dollars in engine damage, but it won't do a lot for keeping you warm in cold weather. You don't have to let your car sit for a week until a mechanic can get to it; pick up a replacement thermostat and complete the job yourself. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Thermostat Thermostat gasket Box wrench Screwdriver Scraper Step by Step : 1 Locate the Jetta's thermostat housing at the top of the radiator and disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the housing. This is done by loosening the band clamp that holds the hose to the housing with a screwdriver. Once the hose is loosened, pull it off the housing. 2 Remove the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing onto the intake manifold. Some radiator fluid will likely spill out of the housing. This is common. To avoid burning yourself, this job should be completed when the Jetta engine and coolant have had plenty of time to cool. 3 Remove the old thermostat housing gasket. It should pull off in one piece, but it is not uncommon for Volkswagen to seal the gasket with PVC gasket maker. If this is the case with your Jetta, you will need to scrape the old PVC gasket away. Take caution not to get any PVC into the housing, which could cause the new thermostat to malfunction. 4 Remove the thermostat from the housing by pulling up on it. There are no bolts to hold it into place. It sits on a recessed lip machined into the inside of the intake manifold. 5 Insert the new thermostat, making sure it is oriented with the correct side facing up. Place the new thermostat housing gasket in place and bolt the top of the housing back onto the intake manifold with the bolts you took off earlier. 6 Push the radiator inlet hose back onto the thermostat housing and tighten the band clamp securely. 7 Start your Jetta's engine and monitor the inlet hose and gasket area for leaks. If the hose leaks, tighten the band clamp tighter. If the gasket area leaks, remove the housing and apply a new gasket and a small amount of PVC sealer. Then monitor for leaks again Car Insurance ford f550 super duty regular cab chassis 2004Acura, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Daewoo, Daihatsu, Dodge, Eagle, Ford, Geo, GMC, Honda, HUMMER, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mercury, MINI, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Peugeot, Plymouth, Pontiac, Porsche, Ram, Saab, Saturn, Scion, Smart, Sterling, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, Yugo,Auto Insurance

Attached to the bottom of the piston is a connecting rod, which is attached to a crankshaft, which leads, eventually, to the drive wheels of your car. As the piston and the connecting rod go up and down, they cause the crankshaft to turn.
